dr. sc. Adnan Jahić

Adnan (Muhamed) Jahić was born on April 21, 1967, in Tuzla, SFR Yugoslavia. He completed his primary and secondary (Gimnazija) education in Tuzla. In 1991, he graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo, majoring in Oriental Studies and English Language and Literature. He earned his Master's degree from the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo (within the postgraduate program History of Bosnia and Herzegovina) in 2003. He defended his doctoral dissertation, entitled Organizacija i rad Islamske zajednice u Bosni i Hercegovini između dva svjetska rata, at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Tuzla, on October 20, 2007. During the 1990s, he played an active role in the public and political life of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He served two terms as a member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina and was a member of the parliamentary delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
He has authored over 70 scientific papers focusing on modern Bosnian-Herzegovinian and Bosniak history. His primary research interests include topics from the religious, cultural, and intellectual history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as Muslim (Bosniak) history of the first half of the 20th century. He has published six books: Muslimanske formacije tuzlanskog kraja u Drugom svjetskom ratu (Tuzla, 1995), Hikjmet – riječ tradicionalne uleme u Bosni i Hercegovini (Tuzla, 2004), Islamska zajednica u Bosni i Hercegovini za vrijeme monarhističke Jugoslavije (1918-1941) (Zagreb, 2010), Vrijeme izazova. Bošnjaci u prvoj polovini XX stoljeća (Zagreb – Sarajevo, 2014), Muslimansko žensko pitanje u Bosni i Hercegovini (1908–1950) (Zagreb, 2017), and Između čekića i nakovnja. Bosanskohercegovački muslimani (Bošnjaci) u Drugom svjetskom ratu (1941-1945) (Zagreb, 2023). For his books on the Islamic Community and Bosniaks in World War II, he received the "Hasan Kaimija" Award for the best work in the social sciences and humanities published in 2010 and 2023. He has participated in numerous international and domestic scientific conferences and symposia dedicated to contemporary history, Islamic studies, and the political life of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is one of the editors and authors of the multi-volume Historija Bosne i Hercegovine, published by the Institute for History in Sarajevo in 2023. He serves as an editorial board member for several historical journals.
He currently works as a Full Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Tuzla. He is married, a father of three children, and a grandfather of four granddaughters.
